Read-2-Lead Tee-off For Literacy

(PRWEB) August 27, 2004 -- San Juan Bautista Child Development Center, Inc. and Read-2-Lead Tee-off to promote the importance of literacy on the greens of Silver Creek Valley Country Club, San Jose, California (www.scvcc.com). Tee-off in the Read-2-Lead Golf Classic & Awards Banquet on September 16th and help promote the importance of literacy. Kicking off the Read-2-Lead Classic week of festivities, the Golf Classic will feature a One Million Dollar Shootout, a Mexico Cruise Putting Contest, and a videotaped hole of each golfer, plus many more prizes and activities.

Founded in 1971, San Juan Bautista Child Development Center, Inc. (SJBCDC;www.sjbcdc.org) currently serves families in San Jose, California and adjacent areas with 21 licensed programs at 11 sites. It is the only provider in the county that holds all four licenses from the state Department of Social Services/Community Care licensing (DSS/CCL): for infant care, preschool, school age and sick child care for mildly ill children. SJBCDC, Inc. is one of the few area agencies to offer a subsidized Infant/Toddler program and operates the only licensed, Level II (open to community) Sick Child Care Center in Santa Clara County. The agency has long been known for providing innovative solutions to problems faced by low and moderate-income families working to support themselves and their children. It was the first in central Santa Clara County to accept infants, first to care for school-aged children before and after their school day, and first to establish sick child care – a program that became a national model

SJBCDC is collaborating with Read-2-Lead (www.read-2-lead.org) to bring literacy and mentoring to children. The vision of SJSU Head Football Coach Dr. Fitz Hill, Read-2-Lead empowers student-athletes to promote literacy and become mentors that ignite the desire within our youth to improve their reading skills. Dr. Hill believes literacy is a legacy that is passed from parent to child, from generation to generation. The Spartans and SJBCDC have worked together to bring literacy to the agency’s children for over two years. This event is an extension of that relationship and the perfect beginning to a week of literacy events, culminating with the Morgan State vs. San Jose State Football Game on Saturday September 18, 2004.
