Jim Breech Kicks His Way Onto The ASGA Tour

Elizabeth City, NC (PRWEB) May 26, 2004 -– The ASGA Tour, Inc. announced today that former Cincinnati Bengals place kicker Jim Breech will be participating on the upcoming Tour, which begins in late August and culminates with the National Championship in February 2005.

A 2-handicap, Breech will be competing in the Tour’s Pro-Championship Division in many of the 15 ASGA tournaments scheduled nationwide this year.

The ASGA Tour’s Pro-Championship Division, which has been around since 1999, is open to golfers 18-47 years of age and 48 years and older (Senior Division) who compete at scratch, including former PGA Tour players who are preparing for the Champions Tour as well as players who are not fully exempt on either the PGA Tour or Champions Tour.

Beginning this year, players of all skill levels will have a chance to live their dreams and compete like the pros for the first time. The ASGA Tour, this year, is introducing the Pro-Net Division, a competition offering substantial prize money to golfers ages 18 and older with handicaps as low as zero and as high as 36. Pro-Net Division golfers will compete using their handicaps under the ASGA @ Par Handicap System and winners can take home as much as $10,000 per event.

The ASGA Tour has all the amenities of the PGA Tour, including electronic leader boards, official scoreboard, real-time scoring, hospitality center, gallery and national television coverage on FOX Sports Net.

Golfers who wish to compete in ASGA Tour events must first apply for exempt status in either the Pro-Net or Pro-Championship Division by visiting the tour’s web site, www.asgatour.com. Breech, who has celebrity exemption status, is eligible to play in the Tour’s first event from August 26-29 at the Indian Creek Golf Club in Covington, GA. Breech joins former New York Yankees third basemen Graig Nettles on the ASGA Tour’s celebrity exemption list.

After beginning his career as a place kicker with the Oakland Raiders in 1979, Breech played the next 12 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals (1980-1992), retiring as the club’s all-time leader in points (1,151), number of field goals (225) and points after a touchdown (476), while sharing the Bengals team record of 13 consecutive field goals made. One of the premier place kickers in NFL history, Breech led the AFC in scoring twice (1981, 1987) and holds the NFL record for scoring in 181 consecutive games, a streak that was halted during his final year with the Bengals.

Breech approached his field goal kicking very similar to how he approached his golf game.

“The whole concept is just like the golf swing,” Breech stated in the Cincinnati Bengals media guide. “Keeping your left side in, swinging up through the ball. You run into the same problems coming from outside in, coming across the ball and not keeping your head down. It’s uncanny.”
